If protected from the elements most dogs can stay warm in the all but the coldest weather.
Lining or covering a dog house with wind proof materials like Styrofoam or heavy plastic can make a big difference.
However in extremely cold weather even outside dogs should be brought inside unless their dog houses are protected from the wind and lined with insulation.
All dogs with short hair are at risk in cold weather and should be protected from both wind and cold.
